Canada imposes economic sanctions against Russia


Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeauannounced on Tuesday economic sanctions to Russia considering that Moscow’s actions against Ukraine they are “another invasion of a sovereign country and it is completely unacceptable”.

“We will prohibit Canadians from engaging in purchases of Russian sovereign debt. And we will apply additional sanctions to Russian state banks and prevent dealings with them,” Trudeau said as he announced a series of measures.

Canadian government asks Russian ambassador for explanation

The Government of Canada summoned the Russian ambassador to Ottawa, Oleg Stepanovonce Russia has recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.

“I have ordered my deputy minister to summon the Russian ambassador to explain the continued Russian aggression, the violation of international law and the disregard for Ukraine’s sovereignty,” Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said on social media.

Russia recognized the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk on Monday and hours later ordered the entry of the Russian Armed Forces within the framework of a “peacekeeping mission”, decisions harshly criticized by most of the international community.
