Businessmen moderately regain their confidence in the economy; cautious with investments

Entrepreneurs in the manufacturing, construction and commerce sectors are slightly more optimistic about the economy in line with the recovery process. Despite the advance in business confidence in Mexico, there is still a moderation in making investments.

During October 2021 the Business Confidence Indicator (ICE) increased 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous month in the manufacturing and construction sectors. On the other hand, in trade the advance was 0.2 points, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Inegi (National Institute of Statistics and Geography).

The level of business confidence has followed a cautious recovery trend so far this year; only during July and August was there a drop linked to the third wave of Covid-19 and some restrictions on economic activity.

Confidence that the economic situation of the economic units will improve over the next 12 months is the item best rated by entrepreneurs. This index is at levels of 69.5, 64.5 and 60.5 percentage points for construction, commerce and manufacturing respectively.

They do not see clarity for investments

In contrast, the item that shows a significantly more moderate level of confidence is the one that evaluates the confidence of entrepreneurs to make investments. In all three sectors, this index was below the threshold of 50 points.

Entrepreneurs in the construction sector are the most cautious in this area; the confidence level was 26.4 points; for the commerce sector it was 30.9 points and 39.5 for manufacturing.
