Builders from Puebla urge to prioritize tenders for SMEs

Puebla, Puebla. The municipalities of the metropolitan area could help small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) construction companies so that they can move forward in 2022, if they give them priority in the construction of new streets and maintenance of existing ones, considered the Association of Entrepreneurial Builders (Acoem) Siglo XXI.

José Alfredo Vega Herrera, president of the organization, expressed the concern of the 120 members, who have seen that the municipal authorities in functions issued few tenders, which does not give dynamism to the sector so far this year.

He indicated that the builders hoped that the authorities that entered last October would contribute with various projects for municipalitiesbut that has not happened as expected.

The leader pointed out that public works is where all companies in the sector have 60% of their activity and the rest in their own projects, which are not continuous, because they are when some develop them, while they remain semi-detained.

He exhorted the acting mayors to prioritize the construction SMEssince they are the most affected by the pandemic, since in 2021 they were not able to recover economically either because there were few tenders, despite the fact that citizens demand the repair of streets in main areas, as well as others where urban growth continues.

Vega Herrera commented that up to three small construction companies can participate in a new street, which some of its partners have done on other occasions, with which they remain active.

Meanwhile in conurbation municipalitieshe deepened, they can be rehabilitated and paved on local roads, which are part of the promises of each authority that enters.

He trusted that the new municipal authorities are open and give priority to construction SMEs, which in turn generate jobs in the communities, that is, “we bring work to the locals themselves and there economic income is generated with the purchase of some materials.”

The leader indicated that in the Metropolitan area there is little public work to be done, however, the partners of the ACOEM have not seen short-term projects become known, despite the fact that the management time of a city council is short.

He mentioned that this year the SME sector should be reactivated, because other economic activities have been working at 100% since last October, while “we are at a trickle in projects that are more private than public.”
