Border closure between Mexico and the United States extended until October 21

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended the limitation of only essential trips from Mexico and the United States, including those of an educational, medical and work nature.

The last: DHS claimed that it monitors and responds to the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency reported that the decision is made when there are more than 40.3 million cases of coronavirus in the country and more than 3.4 million infections until the week of September 5.

  • Wednesday’s announcement follows the most recent extension, in August, which also applied to Canada, which expired on Tuesday.
  • The move comes days after the Biden Administration eased restrictions on fully vaccinated international travelers.

And now that? Beginning in early November, foreign visitors will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and show a negative test before boarding a flight to the United States.

  • The passage between the United States and Canada remains closed. Canada reopened its borders to some American tourists in early August.
