Bedford: a truck rushes on a Hydro-Quebec pole and plunges more than 550 subscribers into the dark

More than 550 Hydro-Québec customers have been plunged into darkness since Wednesday morning in Bedford, in the Eastern Townships, when a truck drove straight into a pole of the Crown corporation, cutting it in the process.

The collision took place around 10:45 a.m. on rue de la Rivière and caused no injuries, confirmed the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Stéphane Tremblay.

Service is expected to be restored by midnight Wednesday evening. The long repair time could be explained by the fact that a transformer, an essential component of electrical transport, was attached to the pole, according to what the SQ confirmed.

Partially obstructed in the morning, rue de la Rivière was reopened in the afternoon.
