BC to receive doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine next week | The Canadian News

British Columbia’s chief physician confirmed that the province will receive a limited number of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.

Provincial health official Dr. Bonnie Henry said Tuesday that they expect to receive a shipment of the single-dose vaccine early next week. It will be offered to unvaccinated healthcare workers as it might be a better option for those who are more hesitant about vaccinations but want to keep working.

“Our first priority will be to offer it to healthcare workers who have been affected by the PHO order and who want this vaccine as an option so they can continue to work safely in healthcare,” Henry said. “So that will be our priority for the next few weeks once this vaccine arrives.”

“We know that some healthcare workers have said that this is the only option they would consider at this time.”

The province will release information next week for others waiting to receive the single-dose vaccine.

During an update Monday, the province said it had administered more than 8.3 million doses of the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
