Bartlett promises 16 new CFE power plants in this six-year term

The general director of the Federal electricity commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlett, pledged before the Chamber of Deputies that the present administration will add 16 new power generation plants, which will contribute an additional 8,600 megawatts to the current installed capacity in the country.

This means a growth of just over 11% of national capacity, which will be carried out through public resources only, without public-private partnerships or programmed to defer long-term spending (Pidiregas).

“The construction of 16 plants, including a large solar park, will provide 8,600 megawatts of power, being carried out from self-financing (through a Master Investment Trust), and with resources obtained from national and international development banks,” he said. Bartlett before legislators.

According to the official, the construction process of these projects is in progress and six of the plants are under tender, while of the plants to be built through development banks, three more have already been signed.

Meanwhile, between 10 and 14 dams will receive work to replace main equipment, such as turbines, generators and transformers, for which 1,100 million pesos will be invested, extending their useful life by 50 years. According to the official, nine of these repowering projects are already in the bidding process.

On the other hand, he said that for the transmission process in 2020 3.365 million pesos were invested and by 2021, an additional 5.460 million will be applied.

Meanwhile, in the activity of Energy Distribution, 912 works were completed in 2020, increasing the high voltage lines by 57 kilometers and 1,590 circuit kilometers in medium and low voltage lines. By the end of 2021, 1,162 works will have been completed, with an estimated investment of 2,138 million pesos, according to the director of the CFE.

Bratlett He also assured in his appearance, before the united commissions of Energy and Infrastructure in San Lázaro, which are distributed annually 250,000 million pesos for supplies and services and between 2019 and the first semester of 2021, the rationalization through purchasing austerity schemes has allowed savings of 21,168 million pesos. This is also thanks to the fact that currently 93% of the procedures are done by open and simplified competition. While in 2012 direct awards were 78%, in 2020 they are only 7 percent.

The commitment to the communities and the most disadvantaged has made possible a historic service coverage, exceeding 99% for the first time, said the manager.

Due to the health crisis the CFE implemented mechanisms so that households did not switch to the High Domestic Consumption (DAC), by increasing energy use in homes. Thus, almost 600.00 users per month were prevented from leaving the subsidized rate.

The support until last August, amounts to 16, 570 million pesos, the same that the CFE did not obtain in income.

“Meanwhile, the private sector did not participate with any direct support to the population. One more sample of what it is to put public service before commercial interest,” he said in defense of the energy counter-reform that will be discussed in this period of sessions to give the state company once again the monopoly of activity in the country, reducing private participation.
