Banxico works without director of economic research and without director of communications

The vacant seats in the Directorates for Economic Research, as well as in the Directorate Institutional Liaison and Communication at Banco de México (Banxico) led to a conversation on twitter that had to be calmed down by the former director of external relations of Banxico, Federico Rubli.

In his official Twitter account, the deputy governor of Banxico Jonathan Heath He said that “with the return of Julio Santaella to the Bank of Mexico, the central bank’s tweeters will add three.”

This was in response to a message posted by the former president of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (inegi), who has announced since January 3 that he will be more analytical in his publications on the social network, both in terms of information and comments.

Heath welcomed him and assured him that his contributions to Twitter would be invaluable due to his experience and knowledge of indicators, underlining “we will already be three Banco de México tweeters.”

The message from the board member motivated analysts such as the director of the Visor Financiero consulting firm, Joel Martínez, to point out that Santaella “will be the brand new director of economic research of the central bank at the invitation of the new governor ( Victoria Rodríguez Ceja) ”.

The aforementioned position has been vacant since 30 September last year following the resignation due to health reasons by Daniel Chiquiar.

A selection is made and the Governing Body conducts interviews with the finalists and by a majority elects the new Director-General of Economic Research ”.

However, Jonathan Heath wrote on his Twitter account that this information was “incorrect”.

More analysts joined the discussion on Twitter, adding that Santaella’s arrival at the governing body was not at the invitation of the new governor.

The post of Director of Communications has been filled by Oscar Duran from January 2017 to December 2021 and the post is currently vacant.
