Automotive sector has barely legitimized 34% of its collective bargaining agreements: STPS

The automotive sector has two pending in labor matters: on the one hand only 34% of the contracts have been legitimized work groups of the 1,200 that are estimated to exist with registrationand on the other hand, the renewal of the union leaders is needed, which must be carried out before March 31 of this year.

In a meeting with representatives of the sector, the secretary of the Work and Social WelfareLuisa María Alcalde Luján, called for the renewal of the union directives through personal, free, direct and secret vote, “since there will be no extension of the agreement to extend its validity beyond the 31st of March, the date on which the extension period granted due to the effects caused by the Covid 19 pandemic ends.

In this sense, Mayor Luján requested support to promote democratic processes in the unions of the sector, which include the legitimization of collective contracts, in order to avoid possible sanctions derived from the Trade Agreement between Mexico, Canada and the United States. (TMEC)”.

The Secretary of Labor affirmed that given the evolution of public health conditions in the country, “there will no longer be an extension, and it seems that some leaders think that it will happen and not anymore, that is why it is important that the unions renew their directive, under the new rules of personal, free, direct and secret voting, we inform you and ask you to be vigilant so that there is no problem”.

For this reason, he suggested as the method of choice for the subsequent processes, resorting to the Remote Labor Voting System (Sirvolab), developed by the STPS and which, according to the Labor Minister, “worked very well, it was not hacked, it did not crash and it cannot be be manipulated as was demonstrated in the election of the Oil Union”.

He stressed that it is important to comply so as not to have complaints within the TMEC, “if we comply with the regulations there will be no problems going forward, in addition, it is a sector that encourages others to comply with the regulations, such as construction or the field”, stressed.

Present at the meeting were José Guillermo Zozaya, Executive President of the AMIA; Fausto Cuevas, General Director of the AMIA; Antonio Michel Guardiola, director of Institutional Relations and Communication; Diego Ramírez Vincent, director of Nissan Government Relations; Miguel Medina, director of BMW Government Relations; Catalina Coppel, from General Motors, and Luis Amezcua, senior manager of Legal and Compliance Toyota.
