Police responded on June 4 around 6:30 am to an incident at a residence on Erie Street South in Leamington.

The suspect had left the scene when officers arrived. The officers learned that an adult male had attended the address, caused damage to the residence, then attacked the homeowner while wielding a cane as a weapon.

The suspect was located a short distance away from the residence, on Robinson Street.

OPP said that when the officers confronted the suspect and attempted to arrest him, he “actively resisted,” and a struggle ensued.

The officers ultimately gained control over the suspect and took him into custody.

Chad Robert Hearns, 48, of Leamington, has since been charged with mischief, assault with a weapon, failure to comply with a probation order, and resisting arrest.
