Arrival of surface finishing companies is growing in Nuevo León due to Nearshoring: David González Sierra

Monterey, NL. The surface finishing industry, which mainly serves the automotive and appliance sectors, was slowed down by the pandemic, however this year it has shown strong growth due to the arrival of companies from the United States, Asia and Europe that seek to be very close of its main clients in North America (Nearshoring).

This was commented by David Omar González Sierra, president of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Association of Surface Finishing Industrialists (AMAS), during the announcement of its Fifth Meeting Surface Finishing Mexico (SFM), which will take place from July 25 to 27, in Cintermex.

He explained that after two years of Covid-19, this Association is growing by 50% in its membership “because there is a need for the industry to continue preparing for the projects that may come, to grow and increase sales and profitability” .

The surface finishing industry serves sectors with a high economic impact, such as the automotive, aerospace, household appliances, electronics, architecture, jewelry, medical devices, among others.

He added that the supply chain of this sector will be attractive for companies in the United States, because in that country many people refuse to work because they receive a government subsidy.

For this reason, “Nuevo León is a benchmark for doing things well, and has suppliers with the quality that companies are looking for. In addition, it is in the corridor to the United States, for pieces that are manufactured in the Bajío and here they can be given a final coating or finish.”

Meeting Surface Finishing Mexico

The Meeting will have a commercial area with more than 90 confirmed exhibitors, with innovative offers for this industrial segment. “Only for the event we estimate more than 10 million pesos of economic benefit for Nuevo León,” said Ruth Joanna Rodríguez Virueña, general director of AMAS.

At the event “there will be specialized courses on Fundamentals of Electroplating and General Requirements for Aerospace and Automotive Quality Management Systems,” said the director.

There will also be a business meeting and exhibition floor, in which the latest products and technologies will be presented, to carry out the finishing and coating processes that global companies demand.

The visitor profile are decision-making managers, such as general managers, purchasing managers and supplier developers; responsible for processes and production; process, project and operations engineers, among others.

“SFM represents an excellent opportunity to network with the leaders and experts in electroplating, anodizing, electrocoating, powder coating, E-Coat, organic finishes and other related processes.”

For his part, Gonzalo Escamez Sada, CEO of Cintermex, commented to The Economist that the Expos of the industrial sector such as SFM, “bring great growth to the city. An economic benefit generated by the exhibitions is 3,500 million pesos per year, and there is an economic benefit for the entire value chain, as well as the attraction of Foreign Direct Investment”.
