Another round of whacky weather to wallop Quebec


Montreal area expects freezing rain turning to rain beginning Tuesday night, while the windchill in Chibougamau could drop to –51 C.

Another low-pressure system is closing in on Quebec and northern New Brunswick, spewing out a mix of rain, freezing rain, snow and extreme cold as it does so.

Beginning Tuesday night, Montreal and the regions of Montérégie, the Eastern Townships, Beauce and Mauricie are expected to experience freezing rain followed by rain.

Environment Canada forecasts that the Outaouais region will receive a heavy accumulation of freezing rain, with similar conditions expected for regions north of the St. Lawrence River as well as Quebec City.

The system is also expected to dump more than 20 centimeters of snow on Tuesday night in the regions of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, La Tuque, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Charlevoix, all of the Côte-Nord up to Blanc-Sablon, Témiscouata and the Gaspé.

Northern New Brunswick is expected to see 25 cm of snow.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for Chibougamau, Matagami, Fermont and Blanc-Sablon, where beginning Monday night and continuing until Tuesday morning a combination of low temperatures and moderate winds will create wind chills varying from –48 to –51 C.
