An outbreak at the Pompeu Fabra school in Mollerussa confines 430 students

The figures of the pandemic in Catalonia continue to worsen and this is reflected in the schools, where a spike in infections. This wednesday there four closed schools –two are kindergartens and two rural schools (ZER) -. In addition, there has been an outbreak in the school Pompeu Fabra de Mollerussa (Pla d ‘Urgell, Lleida), which has forced to confine 430 students of child and primary, as confirmed by the school to EL PERIÓDICO. So far 11 have been detected positive; 6 are students and 5 are teachers. These figures may go up because a mass screening. Despite this, the school has not closed, as reported by the Department of Education because the teachers, all vaccinated, come to the center from where they teach online classes to students. In addition, all those immunized children – who have passed the COVID, because they are not old enough to receive the vaccine – can go to the center. The reality is that the minors follow the classes from their homes.

The forecast, if no new positives are detected, is that the school will regain its normal functioning this coming Tuesday, November 23, although this Thursday some group of those who were first confined may return.

The centers that have closed, according to the web Traçacovid of the Generalitat that compiles all the data of the educational centers, they are the school La Roca ZER L’Eral de Sarroca (Segrià, Lleida), where there are 13 confined people and one positive detected; the nursery The Snail of Avinyonet del Penedès (with 13 inmates and 1 positive), the school Santa Bàrbara ZER The Castles of Vidrà (19 confined and 3 positives) and the nursery The Putxinel.lis of Montesquiu (17 confined and 7 positive); the latter two in Osona.

Another of the centers most affected by a covid outbreak has been the Pureza de María de San Cugat del Vallès, which last week confined 348 people and that this Wednesday still had 151 confined, 217 less than on Tuesday. In the last 10 days, after a massive screening, 57 positives (52 students and 5 teachers) have been detected in this school.

According to the latest data, this Wednesday there were 71 confined school groups in Catalonia, 7 more than on Tuesday. They are 0.10% of the approximately 72,000 total. There are 12,021 people confined (1,412 more than on Tuesday). Of these, 11,613 are students and 408 are teachers, administrative and external personnel. In the last 10 days, 2,052 positives have been registered and 10,256 (+398) have already accumulated.
