Police say an 18-year-old man who was injured in an accident in downtown Toronto last week died in hospital.

Toronto police said he died Saturday after being rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition from the scene of the Dec. 26 crash at Yonge and Richmond streets.

Emergency teams were called to the accident shortly after 2 pm.

Police said a silver Kia, driven by a 22-year-old man, was traveling west in the left lane at the same time that a white Hyundai driven by a 32-year-old man was also heading west but in the center lane.

Investigators said the Hyundai made a left turn, crossed the path of the Kia and crashed. The Kia rolled onto its side and struck several pedestrians.

Eight people were injured. Two suffered fatal injuries.
