AMLO rules out risks due to the redesign of airspace in CDMX

“There is no danger. We are responsible,” said the president. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in reference to the incident last Saturday night at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), which led to the resignation of Victor Hernandezdirector of the Navigation Services in the Mexican Air Space (Seneam).

The President reported that today there will be a meeting headed by the Secretary of the Interior, Adam Augusto Lopez Hernandez, to address the issue. “Tell people that there is no danger, we are responsible, and all the personnel who work in aviation are good people who do not want a misfortune… There is a meeting in the Government to order the airspace, there is no purpose to affect the lines. We are doing everything based on agreements”, he said during his usual morning conference at the National Palace.

Questioned about the aforementioned incident of the weekend, he replied:

“There was apparently an error, the investigation is being done; yes, the director resigned”.

He denied that the air traffic problem is the result of the entry into operation of the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).

“Is there a problem with the airspace redesign?”

“No, there isn’t. (But) They question everything… I don’t know what’s wrong with them. They should calm down, everything is fixed, and there is something very important. Yes, this is a waiver. What does the new airport have to do with it? It is an eagerness for things to go wrong for us. And we are going to solve everything.

—Do air operators need training?

-Do not. Air operators are very good. There is going to be an understanding, the same lines have already come to offer that they are going to have more flights from the Felipe Ángeles airport.

López Obrador acknowledged that “there is resistance to moving to the new airport,” but that Aeroméxico is already increasing its flights to the new air terminal.

“The president of the Council came (from Aeromexico) to tell me that starting in August they will increase the number of flights, and that in November or December they will have 39 flights on the Felipe Ángeles. And the same is going to do Volaris, and Viva Aerobús. But all this through dialogue… ”, he said.
