AMLO confirms one deceased and 15 injured after the explosion of a Pemex pipeline in Puebla

One person deceased and 15 injured is the balance at the time due to an explosion that occurred this morning due to a gas leak in a pipeline of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) in the municipality of San Pablo Xochimehuacan, Puebla.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador mourned the death of one person and reported 15 injured as a result of the explosion. He indicated that since 2:30 on October 31, 1,396 elements of all the civil protection corporations have been mobilized.



“Pemex already has control of the fire and it will ensure that the families evicted from their homes remain safe. We are working together with the state government. A press conference has already been held and we will be watching. We will continue to report, ”said the federal president on his Twitter account.

At a press conference accompanied by state and federal government officials, the governor of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa, reported that around 1:34 a.m. this Sunday a call was received to 911 that reported a white cloud and the smell of gas in San Pablo XochimehuacanTherefore, authorities from the three levels of government immediately went to the place and proceeded to evacuate people in the area, with a perimeter of 1 kilometer.

He stated that prompt attention and the evacuation of 2,000 people prevented the explosion in San Pablo Xochimehuacan achieve greater damage, as the incident occurred after the evacuation.




Barbosa said that 35 people are in a shelter enabled in San Felipe Hueyotlipan, 100 in the Auditorium of Villa Frontera and 49 in the Temple of the Mormons. It was preliminarily reported that 54 homes were damaged.

He reported that the balance at the moment is a deceased person. Regarding the wounded, the Puebla governor explained that four minors remain in the Burn Unit of a Puebla hospital; seven adults are treated at the Hospital General del Norte. Of those hospitalized, there are five in serious condition, three of them are intubated, with second and third degree burns and burned body surface of 15 and 75 percent.

Barbosa noted that an inter-institutional command group installed in the Puebla C5, made up of: Colonel Lázaro Morales, of the II Armored Regiment; the heads of the Government of Puebla and commanders of the Secretariat of National Defense.

The governor announced that the state government will compensate the deceased and injured people, as well as restore the houses that were damaged by the explosion.

“We regret the tragedy of San Pablo Xochimehuacan and we express our solidarity with those affected; the law will be applied against those responsible, this will not go unpunished; the corresponding investigation is carried out ”, he mentioned.
