AMLO begins his tour of Central America this Thursday


President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will begin this Thursday an official visit to Central American countries, with the purpose of promoting the program “Sowing Life” and his idea that USA must contribute resources to prevent migration to that country.

The Mexican president will visit Guatemala, The Savior, Honduras, Belize Y Cubabeing the first international tour to a country other than USA.

After leading this Thursday the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of PueblaPresident López Obrador will travel to Guatemala, where he is expected to arrive at 3:20 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m. an official welcome ceremony is planned in the Patio de la Vida of the National Palace of Culture of Guatemala.

Later, López Obrador will be received in the presidential office by his counterpart from Guatemala, Alexander Giammatteiwith whom he will address issues of common interest, such as border development, customs issues, air and rail infrastructure, as well as cooperation projects and migration issues within the framework of the Comprehensive Development Planlike the program Sowing Life and multilateral affairs. At 7:15 p.m. there will be a message to the media.

Later, the Mexican president will travel to El Salvador, Honduras, Belize to finish the weekend in Cuba. For his transfers, López Obrador will make a commercial flight to get to Guatemala, and in the rest of the flights he will make them in a Mexican Army aircraft.

In 2020, under the Comprehensive Development Plan For El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, the Government of Mexico announced the delivery of resources to beneficiaries of the “Sembrando Vida” and “Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro” programs.

The foregoing following the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to reach a comprehensive mechanism with Central American countries to avoid migrationseeking development in the regions of origin and with a scheme of direct support to the beneficiaries, without intermediaries.

This tour, said the Presidency of the Republic, “is part of the Mexican strategy of looking to the south and aims to expand and strengthen the ties of friendship and the presence of Mexico in the region, as well as deepen political, economic and of cooperation in favor of the development of the region and the well-being of its peoples”.

On Friday, May 6, he will arrive in El Salvador, where he will hold a meeting with the president Nayib Bukele Ortez and their respective delegations, to address the broad bilateral agenda that includes cooperation issues in infrastructure, development, consular and commercial matters. This meeting will also strengthen cooperation for the benefit of social development that our country promotes through programs Sowing Life Y Youth Building the Futurewhich are in the final phase of implementation in this country.

On the same day, President López Obrador will travel to Honduras, where he will meet for the first time with his counterpart, Xiomara Castro Sarmiento. This visit will lay the foundations for a future strategic association and will allow defining priorities for the common agenda in commercial, infrastructure, consular and cultural issues, among others.

On Saturday, May 7, López Obrador will hold a meeting with the Prime Minister of Belize, Juan Antonio Briceno, in Belize City, in what will be the third meeting between the two leaders. As part of the agenda, it is expected that they will also lead a meeting with the aim of deepening the political, cooperation, tourist, cultural and commercial agenda. Likewise, the signing of a letter of intent regarding cooperation for the next implementation of the Sembrando Vida program in that Caribbean country is expected.

This first work tour will conclude on Sunday, May 8 in Cuba, where a private meeting with the president is planned. Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudezas well as an extended meeting with delegations to review the broad national agenda that includes rural development projects and strengthening of local capacities, as well as the signing of a collaboration agreement on health and another on cooperation.

The Mexican delegation that accompanies the President is made up of the Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón; National defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval Gonzalez; Marine, Jose Rafael Ojeda Duran; as well as the general coordinator of Social Communication and spokesperson for the Presidency, Jesus Ramirez Cuevasand the ambassadors of Mexico in each country.
