American Airlines opens new route between Miami and Chetumal

Cancun, QRoo.- This Wednesday the first flight of American Airlines connecting Chetumal with Miami. The plane has 64 seats in economy class and 12 in first class.

The new route will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays in an Embraer 175 aircraft. It is the 28th destination in Mexico for this airline.

“American has a commitment of almost 80 years of service in Mexico and today we are proud to be able to close this 2021 by inaugurating the flight from Miami to Chetumal,” said José María Giraldo, Director of Operations for Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Ecuador at American Airlines.

“We are excited to open the doors of Chetumal to more travelers from the United States and the world.”

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Manuel Joaquín González, who said that this pioneering flight in the state capital will benefit the entire southern region and expand its tourist offer.

In this regard, Darío Flota Ocampo, director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, assured that there is great expectation regarding what the flight alone will represent for Quintana Roo in terms of economic recovery and with a view to continuing to strengthen air connectivity to create synergy with the Maya Trend, which will allow from almost any point of the Yucatan peninsula to travel the entire circuit regardless of where it is approached.

“We appreciate the interest that American Airlines has always shown to support tourist destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, we hope this route will help generate traffic in both directions so that it is successful for everyone and lasts a long time,” he said.

For her part, Vicky Uzal, commercial director at American Airlines for Mexico, commented that this year American Airlines celebrates 40 years in Quintana Roo, operating from Cancun, “and starting today with our new service in Chetumal we will offer better access to tourists who wish to visit the capital of the state, as well as the tourist destinations of Bacalar and different archaeological sites nearby ”.

American currently operates more than 750 weekly flights to 28 destinations in the country, including two destinations in Quintana Roo: Chetumal (CTM) and Cancun (CUN).
