Over the past two years, Alberta Parks has seen a huge increase in visitation, which has prompted some changes to how it handles camping reservations in the coming years.

“We’ve seen such an increase, 167 percent, in the last two years,” said Michael Roycroft, Kananaskis Country regional director with Alberta Environment and Parks. “That equates to about 800,000 bookable nights for campers.”

“That volume has strained our reservation systems and we’ve heard from Albertans who want easier and fairer opportunities to camp.”

On Tuesday, Alberta Parks said reservations will open year-round with a 90-day rolling reservation window for individual campgrounds that include inland and upcountry sites.

Albertans will be able to reserve up to 180 days in advance for group and comfort camps.

The maximum number of consecutive nights for a reservation is now limited to 10. If you wanted to stay more than 10 nights, you would have to make two separate reservations.

While reservations will now be open year-round, Roycroft added that people can only reserve campsites that are open at the time of reservation, meaning some campers may still need to reserve at a later date due to certain circumstances. seasons inside the camps.
