Air Canada file: “a country that tramples French”


Air Canada CEO Michel Rousseau has apologized for the remarks last November, saying it was a mistake not to have learned French before taking up his post.

“Honestly, it’s embarrassing if you’ve been taking French lessons since November at the pace he tells us and having that French… It’s laborious, you would have needed French subtitles to understand what he is trying to tell us in French,” says Yasmine Abdelfadel.

Mathieu Bock-Côté instead criticized the political system and big business for favoring the language of Shakespeare.

“Canada works first in English, if Michael Rousseau spoke French like me and he spoke English like he speaks French right now, would he be CEO of Air Canada? No. The country to which you consent is a country that tramples on the French language, you have the right to consent to it and I have the right to criticize it, ”says Mathieu Bock-Côté.
