New Westminster police were called to the stabbing at about 2 am on May 29, 2021, just outside the SkyTrain station on Columbia Street.

A man had been stabbed in the stomach and back and was rushed to hospital with life-threatening wounds.

In the days that followed, police identified and arrested a suspect.

On Wednesday, Murid Ghulam was found guilty of one count of aggravated assault in relation to the stabbing.

“Although Mr. Ghulam and the victim are associated with known Lower Mainland gangs, investigators could not confirm the motive behind the stabbing,” said NWPD Sgt. Sanjay Kumar in a release announcing the conviction.

Kumar said Ghulam has been in jail since his arrest and is due for sentencing soon.

“From the life-saving measures performed by the responding patrol officers to the detailed investigation completed by our major crime unit, we’re proud of the work done on this case,” said Kumar.
