The last big wave of summer vacation traffic is expected for the weekend of September 10 to 12, 2021. The end of vacation in the federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg will be noticeable in return traffic, the warned ADAC already on Monday.

Traffic jams threaten, among other things, on the A8 Salzburg-Munich, the A5 Basel-Karlsruhe motorway and long-distance routes in the direction of Nürnberg, Ulm and Stuttgart. In addition to the motorways, according to the ADAC, the access roads to the excursion areas are also at risk of congestion. Delays can also occur at the more than 900 motorway construction sites. The ADAC named the routes with the greatest risk of congestion as follows:
- Trunk roads to the North and Baltic Seas and back
- A 1 Puttgarden – Hamburg – Bremen
- A 3 Passau – Nuremberg – Würzburg
- A 5 Basel – Karlsruhe
- A 6 Mannheim – Heilbronn – Nuremberg
- A 7 Flensburg – Hamburg
- A 7 Füssen / Reutte – Ulm – Würzburg
- A 8 Salzburg – Munich – Stuttgart
- A 9 Munich – Nuremberg – Halle / Leipzig
- A 81 Singen – Stuttgart
- A 93 Kufstein – Inntal triangle
- A 95 / B 2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen
- A 99 bypass Munich

There is a lot going on at the weekend on the highways in neighboring countries, especially in Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. Since the summer holidays also end in six Austrian federal states, a lot of return traffic is to be expected. According to the information, the problem routes include above all the Tauern, Fernpass, Brenner, Karawanken, Rhine Valley and Gotthard routes and the access roads to the excursion regions near the Alps.
