The positive test rate for COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex is higher than the provincial average, according to data from Sept. 19. In Windsor, about 3.3 percent of COVID-19 tests are positive based on the seven-day moving average, compared to 2.4 percent in Ontario.

There are 20 people hospitalized with the virus, including five people in intensive care.

There is a local long-term care home in the outbreak. Berkshire Care Center reports one resident and four staff COVID-19 cases to date.

To date, 82 percent of Windsor Essex residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 75.4 percent are fully vaccinated.

Ontario’s vaccination mandate for indoor meals, entertainment and exercise goes into effect tomorrow, September 22.

On Monday, WECHU Executive Director Nicole Dupuis said the health unit has seen a steady number of residents come in for a first injection of the COVID-19 vaccine, but has not seen an increase related to the mandate of the vaccine.
