To participate, residents must agree to allow University of Windsor researchers to visit, to plot the tree on the town’s map using GPS co-ordinates and to monitor its growth.

Eight species of saplings were available initially, however the red maple is no longer available. That leaves American sycamore, black cherry, common hackberry, red oak, tuliptree, basswood and autumn fantasy maple to choose from.

Pre-registration is required and quantities are limited.

Pickup is April 23 from 9 am to noon at the Libro Centre.

In addition, a group of volunteers will be planting 50 trees on the grounds of the Libro Center Saturday.

The trees will border on a nature trail planned for 2022.

“We all want to work towards a greener and more sustainable future,” said Mayor Aldo DiCarlo in a news release.

“The goal of these tree-planting projects is not only to directly mitigate climate change but to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.”
