Abraham Ancer continues to climb the PGA rankings

Mexican golfer, Abraham Ancer, advanced two positions in classification PGA by occupying step 12 with 5.1956 units after their participation in the DP World Tour Championship en Dubai, the final competition of the European Tour season. The Tamaulipas is forging a career worthy of note in national golf, which only takes time and a couple of more titles to rise as the best Mexican to have stepped on the circuit.

So far only five Mexican golfers have tried their luck on the tour of the PGA Tour and Ancer is already one of the best. It is the number one in Latin America and the only one within the 20 best in the world. The one from Reynosa was the only player on the continent to win a title in the most important golf tour on the planet this year, when he lifted the prestigious WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at Memphis, Tennessee, after beating Sam Burns and Hideki Matsuyama in a three-player playoff on the second hole. Only Victor Regalado managed to reap two victories on the Tour.

With this result, he climbed from 23rd place to eleventh in the World Ranking of the PGA Tour, his best finish thus far, and he also became just the fourth Mexican to win a PGA tournament after Víctor Regalado, César Sanudo and Carlos Ortiz. In addition, in 2019 Abram made history by becoming the first Mexican to participate in the Presidents Cup. Following in Regalado’s footsteps, in 2020 Ancer was also the first Mexican to play the Augusta Masters 41 years after Victor did so.

The Chilean Joaquín Niemann remains in position 30 of the classification, the Spanish Sergio García drops two to 46, the Mexican Carlos Ortiz drops 4 to 53, the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz wins 12 to 59, the Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas wins 6 until 84, the Argentine Emiliano Grillo goes down 5 to 85 and the Spanish Santiago Tarrío goes up 4 to 96.

Between December 2 and 5, Ancer will participate in the traditional Hero World Challenge en Albany, a charity tournament organized by Tiger Woods and in which 15 of the 20 best in the world ranking will be present. The Mexican will also be part of the Sentry Tournament of Champions 2022 at The Plantation Course at Kapalua and which kicks off the calendar year of PGA Tour.

The classification of the PGA is still led by the Spanish John Rahm, although he reduced the distance that separates him to 0.8230 points on average with the American Collin Morikawa, after his victory in Dubai. The two players, with 9.8468 for Rahm and 9.0238 for Morikawa, are the only ones who aspire to finish the year at the top of the ranking, since the American Dustin Johnson, who occupies the third place, has 7.9476 points on average.
