A woman and her one-year-old baby were evicted on Tuesday of the apartment they occupied at number 163 on Calle de Tamarit, a house property of the Archbishopric of Barcelona in which a narco-flat had previously operated, reports ACN.

The woman lived on the mezzanine with her one-year-old baby and her partner, and the process that led to Tuesday’s eviction began months ago. The archbishopric presented a legal claim in 2020 to get those responsible for the narco-flat to abandon it, something they ended up doing in March 2021 due to neighborhood pressure.

When the house was empty, Shardonelys, the woman evicted on Tuesday, moved into it. When she learned that the eviction process was underway, she asked for help from social services, which offered her the alternative of a pension. However, the boardinghouse only allowed her to be out from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., which prevented her from working because she has longer hours.

“What they offered me was a prison & rdquor ;, Shardonelys told ACN, emphasizing that he could only agree to move to the pension if he lost his job: Living there and losing your job meant losing money & rdquor ;.

The circumstance occurs that the woman was unaware that before she arrived at the house it had housed a narco-apartment. She was offered it by a woman who charged her 3,200 euros in exchange for the keys and the theoretical rental period of one year. Months later, she received an eviction order.

Archbishopric sources told ACN that their policy in these cases is to ensure that the person who is going to be evicted from one of their properties has a housing alternative: “Obviously, we don’t want anyone to stay on the street & rdquor ;. For this reason, the same sources add, this eviction was suspended five times. They also state that they cannot offer one of their flats to the woman and her son because this function corresponds to the social services.
