A sabotage causes delays in the AVE Barcelona-Figueres

Three acts of vandalism perpetrated tonight in three sections of the high speed line that runs through the province of Girona cause this Sunday delays from one hour in the bird that connect with the capital of Girona and France, according to sources from the infrastructure manager ADIF and of Renfe. Although the damage is already being repaired, Renfe warns that train traffic (there are nine programmed in each direction) may be disturbed throughout the day. The Mossos d’Esquadra have opened a research about these acts of vandalism, according to regional police sources.

ADIF sources have indicated that the acts “of sabotage” were recorded in a space of 20 minutes in three different points of the AVE Barcelona-Figueres lineand consisted of gutter burning of the wiring network of the train signaling system, which was left with “major damage“.

The first of the acts of vandalism occurred at 00:03 hours, in the section between Riudellots and Vilobíand the second, five minutes later, at 00:08, between Vilobí and the entrance to the capital of Girona. In these sections, the damage was caused by bonfires that affected the two routes of the AVE. At 00:20 hours, another sabotage was detected in a section of 24 kilometers, between Girona and Vilademulswhere the damage affected one of the two tracks.

As a result of these acts, the high-speed trains that circulate between Barcelona, ​​Girona and Figueres-Vilafant suffer delays of up to 60 minutes. ADIF operators, manager sources have indicated, “hope to fully restore the service on both tracks throughout the day” although it will open the sections to service as the damage is repaired.

Adif will file a complaint with the Mossos “for damage to infrastructure and railway operation.” Sources from the Mossos, for their part, have reported that at midnight they were alerted by ADIF of the presence of bonfires and burnings on the line and that “an investigation is open” into these events.
