A Russian freighter banned from entering the port of Trois-Rivières

The Fesco Uliss is registered in Russia and has Vladivostok as its home port. While it was due to arrive last Sunday, the Russian flag has been treading water since, in the Atlantic west of the Azores.

However, the nationality of the owner of the vessel is not clear and Transport Canada did not answer our questions.

The Port of Trois-Rivières says it is following Transport Canada guidelines and confirms that an expected ship is currently affected by economic sanctions.

Will aluminum smelters have to suffer from these reprisals?

Alcoa did not respond directly to the question, referring us instead to a statement by Chairman Roy Harvey stating a few days ago “that in response to the current aggression, Alcoa will stop buying raw materials or selling to Russian companies.

According to a maritime source, the freighter will have to find a port outside of Canada to unload the pitch it is carrying. The ship arrived from Riga in Latvia and had transited through Germany.
