Old man Winter is showing its true colors as Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for all of Alberta.
Extremely cold wind chill values are expected in the next week, with the coldest wind chill between minus 40 and minus 50.
According to the government department, areas in northern Alberta will experience an extended period of extreme cold conditions, possibly persisting until next weekend.
Since frostbite can develop in a matter of minutes on exposed skin, especially in wind chill, Environment Canada recommends covering all skin and avoiding outdoor activities.
As a reminder, if it is too cold for you to stay outside, it is too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Closed ski hills
Freezing temperatures closed off several ski hills on Boxing Day.
According to a press release, WinSport said the ski and snowboard hill at Canada’s Olympic Park will be closed to guests on Monday due to freezing temperatures.
Servus Tube Park will also be closed through Wednesday with a tentative reopening date on Thursday, depending on the weather.
Sunshine Ski Resort announced Sunday morning that it was closed for the day, along with Nakiska.
As of Sunday morning, the only two ski hills that remained open were Castle Mountain and Lake Louise.
