OPH Sharing Ottawa COVID-19 Exposures As Omicron Spread Overwhelms Contact Tracers – Ottawa | The Canadian News

Ottawa Public Health has launched a website to track public exposures to COVID-19 in the city where it is fighting to reach all those affected.

Three community outbreaks are listed on the page at its launch:

• A convention of the Canadian Tourism Industry Association Congress at the Westin Ottawa on November 30 from 9:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and December 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• The Bronson Center on December 2 from 7 pm to 9 pm The venue hosted a Dwayne Gretzky Christmas show that night.
• Xtreme Trampoline in Kanata on December 5 from 5:30 pm to 7:45 pm

Anyone who has been to any of the above locations on the indicated dates and times and is also showing COVID-19 symptoms should immediately get tested and self-isolate, whether vaccinated or not.

Anyone who is fully vaccinated and showing no symptoms does not have to self-isolate, while unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people should isolate for 10 days and only get tested if they begin to show symptoms.

OPH has a complete list of instructions for anyone possibly exposed in the Web page.

Additional shoots will be added regularly and will remain for 14 days, the incubation period of the virus.

The exposures listed on the website do not take into account all community exposures in Ottawa, only those where OPH has not been able to identify all the people who could have been affected.

Most outbreak locations have public health measures in place, OPH says, but transmission of COVID-19 remains a risk.

The OPH has generally been reluctant to reveal the specific locations of the outbreaks in the community during the pandemic, citing privacy concerns.

But the health unit said in a statement on monday night that the rapid spread of the Omicron variant in Ottawa made it difficult for its contact tracers to efficiently contact high-risk contacts.

“The emergence of the Omicron variant has caused a large increase in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in Ottawa. As a result, Ottawa Public Health is currently experiencing a delay with its contact and case management system, resulting in delayed notifications to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their high-risk contacts, ”the statement read .

OPH asks all residents to inform their own high-risk contacts of the need to isolate themselves and get tested.
