709 Intersection Violation Fines Issued in Saskatchewan During November | The Canadian News

SGI said 709 drivers in Saskatchewan put others at risk last month by disobeying traffic signs and signals.

Police in the province were focusing on safety at intersections and winter driving as part of November’s road safety reflectors.

SGI said 270 drivers were ticketed for disobeying stop signs and 196 drivers did not obey a stoplight.

SGI spokesman Tyler McMurchy said those numbers don’t include drivers caught passing a red light at camera intersections.

An additional 81 tickets were issued to drivers who made U-turns at traffic light-controlled intersections and a further 161 tickets were issued for other intersection-related violations.

SGI said following the rules at intersections is important, especially when it comes to less traction and visibility during winter driving months.

Police also issued 4,524 tickets during the month for speeding or aggressive driving, 593 tickets for distracted driving and 206 tickets for seatbelt or passenger restraint violations.

Drunk driving continues to be a concern for SGI, with 312 drunk driving offenses noted during November, including 210 criminal charges.

The SGI said police continue to focus on drunk driving during the traffic light in December, with numerous checkpoints across the province throughout the month.
