Seven people have been arrested in connection with an investigation into sexual assaults and the possession and distribution of exploitive images of children, Quebec City police announced on Wednesday.

Police said in a statement the suspects will face charges of sexual assault, sexual contact with someone younger than 16, child pornography, violation of court-imposed conditions and fraud.
The investigation, conducted by the sexual assault squad as well as the fraud division of the Quebec City police force, was launched in 2021 and examined incidents that occurred in 2020 and 2021.
All the suspects have been released pending their next court appearance.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible, police said.
