36-Year-Old Woman Dies in Saskatchewan RCMP Custody | The Canadian News

The Saskatchewan RCMP has requested an external investigation into the death of a 36-year-old woman who suffered medical problems while in custody.

According to a statement from RCMP, Broadview RCMP received a report Monday at 9 pm about a person “in distress” in Kennedy, Sask.

RCMP said the woman was fostered under the Mental Health Act and suffered medical problems shortly after.

EMS was already on the scene and took the woman to the hospital. She was pronounced dead around 2:30 am on Tuesday.

RCMP is not releasing the woman’s name at this time.

In keeping with the policy of the RCMP Act, the RCMP has requested the Moose Jaw Police Service to conduct an independent external investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The RCMP also requested the Ministry of Justice to designate an independent observer.
