La Sûreté du Québec said the sequence of events began when the woman lost control of her snowmobile on Saturday night and crashed into a roundabout.

Two men who were close to her pulled her out of the rubble and placed her on a sled, which was towed away with a second snowmobile. One of the men stayed with her on the sled.

The snowmobile used in the rescue struck a moose, at which point the woman was ejected from the sled. She and the two men were taken to a hospital.

The 33-year-old woman died of her injuries in hospital. The two men who tried to rescue her suffered serious injuries, but their lives are not believed to be in danger.

An accident reconstruction specialist was dispatched to the scene to clarify the incident.
