The schools will assume the costs of all special educational programs, such as Sport-études and the various concentrations, up to $200, as of the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

Access to these programs will therefore be free for more than 60% of registered students. Those who participate in programs whose access cost is more than $200 will benefit from a significant reduction in their total bill.

This measure will provide a financial boost for thousands of parents and at the same time improve access to these sometimes expensive programs, argued the Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge.

“These programs sometimes have a high cost, which constitutes a significant access barrier for some students. We hope that everyone, according to their interests, can have access to it, cultivate their passions, and enrich their universe during their secondary studies,” he said.

This budgetary measure totals $27.8 million for the 2022-2023 school year. A sum of $1.7 million, dedicated to the purchase of equipment and the improvement of infrastructures for sports and cultural practice, is added to this amount.

In addition, the government would initiate work so that each public secondary school would eventually be able to offer at least one specific educational program to its students. The gradual deployment of this additional option is planned for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
