Hamilton police say the suspect, Antoine Chambers, is charged with first degree murder in the death of Hasnain (Nano) Ali, as well as attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated battery in connection with this incident.

Chambers is also charged with numerous firearm-related charges, as police allegedly recovered a firearm.

Officers were called to a Mount Hope residence to receive reports of a shooting shortly before 3 p.m. on Sept. 16.

When they arrived, the police found two brothers in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but Ali later succumbed to his injuries.

His father, Faqir Ali, 63, was forcibly taken from the home in a dark van and violently assaulted before he was found near Beach Blvd. along the shore of Lake Hamilton.

Det.-Sgt. Steve Bereziuk told reporters on Friday that the defendant was arrested after police located the suspected hit-and-run vehicle.

“We had reasons to arrest him at the time, but we wanted to continue the investigation,” Bereziuk said, explaining that the suspect vehicle was also seized by the police.

“That vehicle has been forensically examined and registered,” he said. “I will not go into detail about what evidence was recovered there, but it benefited the investigation that has led to charges here today.”

“Certainly there is a chain of events that unfolded between the home invasion itself, the kidnapping of Mr. Ali and where it ended,” Bereziuk added.

Investigators are still searching for two prominent suspects wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder.

Anyone with information who can help the police with the investigation of this crime should call Det. Lisa Chambers at 905-546-4843 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
