“The engineering team modified an existing transmission housing, driveshaft and gear assembly and removed items that were not needed, such as the acoustic package, which reduced weight,” explains Toyota USA in its press release.

Drivers check gearbox ratios using a GR-branded ball shift knob said to weigh just 200 grams, while the drive mode selector has been repositioned to provide more room for the driver’s hand during driving. spirited driving.

The new six-speed manual transmission will be available on entry-level GT and flagship GTS variants, as an alternative to the eight-speed automatic transmission.



Along with the new transmission option, Toyota says it has “further refined the steering and suspension with modified stabilizer bushings and retuned adaptive variable suspension and other chassis control systems,” it claimed to offer “improved handling performance and driving comfort”.

GTS models get a new 19-inch forged wheel design inspired by the GR Yaris Rallye and GR86 coupé, finished in Titanium Dark Silver, and are said to weigh 1.2kg less at each corner.

Volcanic Ash Grey, Dawn Blue and Avalanche White have been added to the color palette, while a tan interior option is now available.



While not detailed in the Australian press release, US models get a new ‘Hairpin+’ mode that allows “more freedom and reward when cornering sharply uphill,” per “[allowing] a greater difference in the degree of wheel spin on the left and right side tires.

Meanwhile, the stability control system is said to have been revised to prevent ‘rapid’ oversteer at high speeds, while “Track mode has been adjusted to allow easy drifting with freedom of throttle control”.
