2022 Women’s College World Series live score, updates, highlights from Oklahoma softball Game 1 vs. Texas

One way or another, the NCAA softball national championship trophy is headed to the Red River.

Defending national champion and No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma will take on Big 12 rival Texas in the Women’s College World Series finals this week, in a clash of teams that are more than familiar with each other. .

The Sooners have lost just three of their 60 games this season. One of those losses came against the Longhorns on April 16. Hailey Dolcini was in the circle that day for Texas, and as he has done time and time again this season, he dazzled, allowing just two hits in a complete game victory.

Dolcini is one of the best weapons in the nation. In 2021, he won the Mountain West Pitcher of the Year award during his final season at Fresno State, posting a remarkable 1.12 ERA. Against the best the Big 12 has to offer, Dolcini has once again shone. She has a 2.35 ERA entering Wednesday’s contest.

However, Dolcini will have his hands full with the Oklahoma lineup. The Sooners are blessed with bats in their hands; they have averaged 9.22 runs per game, almost a run and a half more than second-place Wichita State. That offense is led by slugger Jocelyn Alo. The NCAA’s all-time leader in home runs showed her strength in the final round, hitting a grand slam (her 120th career home run) to propel Oklahoma to the World Series.

It’s David versus Goliath, the brave underdogs taking on the seasoned favorites. Regardless of the outcome, one thing is certain: fans who attend the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City are sure to see the sport’s highest form at play.

Women’s College World Series Live Updates, Game 1 Highlights

22:31 – Oklahoma doesn’t plan to slow down any time soon, according to head coach Patty Grasso. I can’t give the Longhorns an inch, or they’ll take a mile.

Also, the Sooners will travel in Trautwein as long as possible, according to Gratto.

22:28 – Jennings showed that he could do it with the bat. Now, he also showed the leather.

The Sooners second baseman skid high in the air to snatch a hit from Janae Jefferson. That is how do you end an entry

22:23 – A deft grab by a young viewer caught the attention of the broadcast team. Very cool!

One up, two out for the Longhorns in the top of the fourth.

22:15 – The third inning is over and this is looking more and more like a loss. Soon up 10-1.

22:10 – And that’s another dinger. Tiare Jennings knocks one over the fence, driving in three runners and raising OU’s lead to nine. This is getting ugly fast.

22:07 – Alo pulls out a pitch from the thigh. Sooners superfan (and NBA star) Trae Young didn’t seem to like it too much.

22:05 – Jana Johns sends another ball into the Oklahoma City night sky. That will push the Sooners’ lead to 7-1.

21:59 – A sigh of relief for Trautwein. With two runners on, Day got a pitch in the middle of the plate. However, he died on the warning track, falling harmlessly into a Sooner glove.

21:56 – Stand-up double for Dayton with one out. Washington steps up to the plate with a runner in scoring position.

21:47 – Fairly quiet entry for the Sooners, who add a run on the board. Let’s see if the Longhorns can rally in the top of the third.

21:29 – 1-2-3 inning for Trautwein. Alo leading off for the Sooners in the bottom of the second.

21:23 – Hulon walks out of the entrance unharmed. Still, a great first inning for the Sooners that gives them a decent lead early on.

21:19 – Head coach Mike White pulled the plug on Simpson’s experiment after she bounced a ball off Coleman. Logan Hulon walks in now and hopes to finally stop the bleeding.

21:17 – Simpson starts her day with an HBP and a walk. The Sooners are hitting, with Coleman coming back to the plate. Alo in the circle on deck.

21:05 – When it rains it pours. Taylon Snow grabs a Dolcini bolt and slams it over the right center field wall. That is only his fourth home run of the year.

It’s 5-1 for the Sooners. The Longhorns are making a pitching change. Freshman right-hander Sophia Simpson is getting into the game.

20:58 – Boom. Alo smokes a ball into the left field bleachers. 2-1 Sooners in the blink of an eye.

20:56 – Opening brace for Jayda Coleman. That means Jocelyn Alo has a running back in scoring position. uh oh.

20:54 – Hailey Dolcini has the ball for the Longhorns. You have to be careful with that jerk. It has proven to be a real problem for hitters all season.

20:50 – Trautwein walks Courtney Day on five pitches and Texas gets the first run of the game. Three walks in a row for the senior, but she walks out of the inning after inducing a fly ball. 1-0 to the Longhorns at the end of one.

20:47 – Iakopo walks. That’s bases loaded for the Longhorns. Phew.

20:45 – Trautwein in a bit of trouble at first. She allowed a two-out double to Bella Dayton. He followed it up with a pass and walk to Alyssa Washington. Mary Iakopo on the plate now.

8:30 pm – It’s Hope Trautwein in the circle for the Sooners, who are looking to capture their second straight NCAA title.
