2022 begins with five homicides in four days in Toronto

Not even a week out of the year and Toronto has already seen a total of five homicides as of Tuesday night.

On Monday, shortly after 9:30 p.m., the police responded to a call in the area of Palace Pier Court and Lakeshore Boulevard West, near the Humber Bay Arch Bridge. A man with serious injuries was found in a residential building and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police press release. He is identified as Giovanni Raimondi, a 39-year-old Toronto resident.

Earlier Monday, three shooting victims, two men and a woman, were found nearby Lakeshore Boulevard West and 30th Street, Long Branch. Police said the victims were taken to a hospital, where the two men were pronounced dead; the woman survived serious but not life-threatening injuries.

On the same day, officers responded to a radio call shortly before 8 p.m. at the Clinton Street and College Street area, where they found a Toronto woman, Brittany Doff, 30, with no vital signs. Doff was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries, police said.

While investigating Doff’s death, police found a suspect, Nadeem Nedrick, of Toronto, 30; he was arrested and charged with second degree murder.

The city’s first homicide of 2022 occurred on Sunday, when police responded to calls of a shooting in the Weston Road and Highway 401 area in North York. There they found Ariyo Fakomi, a 37-year-old Toronto man, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

All of these investigations are still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the police.

Toronto police recorded 85 homicides in 2021; Last year, the city’s fifth homicide didn’t occur until January 31.
