2 people in their 20s die in rural collision in Nova Scotia – Halifax | The Canadian News

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were killed in a car accident in rural Nova Scotia on Friday night.

In a statement, the Nova Scotia Mounted Police said police were notified of a collision on Highway 245 near Maryvale around 10:16 p.m.

He said Antigonish County RCMP, fire services and EHS attended the scene, where they “found a badly damaged car off the road and a pickup truck in a damaged forest driveway.”

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old man from Antigonish, and the passenger, a 22-year-old woman also from Antigonish, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle went off the road, hit a ditch, rolled over while passing over the pickup at the driveway, and finally came to a stop on the roof near the ditch,” the statement said. “Parts of the car fell apart when the truck was hit.”

The five occupants of the truck were not injured.

He said a collision reconstructor attended the scene and the road was closed for several hours, reopening shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday.

The investigation continues.
