A 14-year-old girl was hit and killed by a dump truck in Burnaby on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened just after 3 pm in the 7100-block of 11th Avenue. The driver of the commercial vehicle — a dump truck pulling a dump trailer — remained at the scene and is co-operating with police.

A warehouse which services 18 wheelers is about a block away from where the incident took place.

“We understand a tragic incident like this will be felt widely throughout the community. Burnaby RCMP is looking at ways to support those impacted by this tragic death. Our Victim Services Unit is also engaged and offering support to those affected, ”said ella. Cpl. Brett Cunningham in a news release.

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is working to determine the circumstances of the crash. Driver impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor.
