What was that song at the beginning of the Apple event?

Apple kicked off its product event on September 14 with a dramatic musical number, complete with violins, desert views and copious drone shots, with an animated version of a funk-soul classic.

The song is “California Soul” by Marlena Shaw, an American jazz singer legend best known for her work in the 1960s and 1970s.

Today, at the age of 78, Shaw continues to actively perform and record music.

In the run-up to the event, Apple released teaser images emblazoned with the phrase “California Dreaming,” a riff from the 1966 song “California Dreamin ‘” by The Mamas & The Papas.
