They seek to protect the freedom of the press


Within the framework of Freedom of Expression Day, and a moment that is marked by violence against journalists in Mexico, with 11 journalists murdered in 2022; The Civic Proposal organization launched the platform “And what do I have to do?”, with the aim of disseminating what each sector of society should do, not just journalists, to defend this right.

The organization highlighted that from 2006 to date, more than 140 journalists have been murdered and at least 20 communicators have disappeared, so “there is nothing to celebrate, today several regions of Mexico are silent, no one dares to inform what happens there; although there are also journalists who, despite the fear and social indifference and that of the media owners themselves, decide not to remain silent”.

Among the proposals are that journalists stand in solidarity with each other and support each other with organizations dedicated to defending freedom of expression.

Meanwhile, he urged citizens to get involved in the defense of freedom of expression when participating in the demonstrations; share the information; make visible and denounce institutional corruption, among other actions.

Enrique Ramirez Case

The Sinaloa prosecutor’s office asserted that it has already established the motive for the murder of journalist and writer Luis Enrique Ramírez Ramos, ruling out that the attack was due to his journalistic work.

He also pointed out that there are already two arrest warrants against two people.

For his part, the spokesman for the Presidency, Jesús Ramírez, announced the social security plan for independent journalists for which the federal government will allocate 760 million pesos, coming from resources for government propaganda.
