They buy vaccines for children under 14 years of age


The federal government commissioned the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to purchase vaccines against Covid-19, which will be used to vaccinate children under 14 years of age.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador met at the National Palace with governors from all over the country to address the issue of vaccination and the federalization of health services.

After the meeting, the governor of Hidalgo, Omar Fayad, confirmed to El Economista that at the meeting it was reported that the federal government had already purchased vaccines against Covid-19 through UNOPS, and paid $78 million in advance. . The number of biologicals acquired was not provided, although the governors were informed that these will be used to vaccinate children under 14 years of age.

The governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri, mentioned that at the meeting President López Obrador told them that this vaccine “is at the door and that he is requesting the vaccines that are pending for the children.”

The meeting was attended by 28 governors and the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum; The leaders of Nuevo León, Samuel García, did not attend; from Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro, and from Yucatan, Mauricio Vila.

At the meeting, the president announced to the leaders that in the coming days they will jointly receive 3 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19 to start an intense vaccination campaign for people lagging behind in the first and second doses, as well as reinforcements.

Federalization process

Similarly, López Obrador detailed the process to ensure that the Federation assumes control of the payroll of state health services, and offered the leaders that their governments can incorporate their hospitals into the IMSS Welfare system, a decision that they will have to take each governor.

The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, said that there are already 11 governments that have signed their adherence to the IMSS-Wellness program, including the state of Sonora.
