If you’re a Spotify ‘free’ level subscriber using a smart speaker or display with the Google Assistant, you’ll be glad to hear that the music streaming service isn’t actually removing Cast support.
Earlier today, Spotify quietly removed the ability to stream audio from a free Spotify account to the Google Assistant’s smart speakers and displays, according to 9to5Google. At that point, if you were trying to stream, you would be treated with a “premium only” notification that appears below the device you’re trying to play music or a podcast from.
In a statement to The edge Chris Welch, Spotify confirmed that this issue was a bug and should now be resolved. Furthermore, the tech giant stated that “there are no plans to remove Spotify Free support in Google Assistant.”

For those with Amazon Echo smart speakers, MobileSyrup He also confirmed that currently it is still possible to play music from a free Spotify account.
Spotify did not officially announce the change. This change would have meant that to stream music to an assistant speaker from Spotify, you would need a $ 9.99 ‘Individual’ $ 12.99 ‘Duo’ plan or $ 15.99 ‘Family’ plan.
Spotify recently announced plans to launch a high-fidelity subscription tier and various podcast-centric features, including the ability to automatically convert content written in WordPress into a podcast on the platform.
