Environment Canada has issued a snow shower alert for London, Ontario and Middlesex County ahead of the possibility of heavy snow starting Monday night and running through Tuesday morning.

There is also an alert for eastern Lambton County, while blizzard warnings have been issued for areas further north.

According to the national weather agency, blizzards over Lake Huron are expected to head south Monday night before subsiding Tuesday morning, with 6 to 8 inches in 12 hours possible in the heaviest bands. .

However, with storms, conditions can vary greatly and it is common to see “changes from clear skies to heavy snowfall within a few kilometers”.

Forecasters are warning motorists about the potential for near-zero visibility at times, as well as on snow- and ice-covered roads.

In London, the forecast calls for a high of -9 C on Monday with a nightly low of -15 C. Snowfall of 10 to 20 centimeters is expected overnight with another two centimeters forecast for Tuesday morning, which is expected to have a maximum of -6C
