Session is postponed to modify the CIDE statutes

Under the slogan of “Legality, voice and vote”, for the second consecutive day and with saucepans in hand, the community of the Economic Research and Teaching Center (CIDE) took to the streets, this time in front of the offices of the Conacyt to demonstrate against the possible change to the statute of the institution. “We are tired that they never listen to us, that they disrespect us,” said Luis Ángel Carrillo, spokesman for the student assembly, as they gathered.

They marched from the Council’s facilities to the monument to Barros Sierra in the sunken park, also the students blocked the Avenida de los Insurgentes holding banners and chanting: “A dictator will not be my director!”

This Friday, the General Assembly of CIDE Associates would meet to carry out an extraordinary session and reform the general statute of said institution, however it was cancelled.

“They have confirmed to us that they opposed the illegal call of this Assembly,” said Eduardo Muñiz, spokesman for the student assembly, “let us remember that the current statute requires that in order to change the statutes themselves, the initiative must first be approved in the Academic Council. , which did not happen, that is, the doctor Maria Elena Alvarez Buylla illegally convened this Assembly and fortunately reason and legality prevailed”.

The representative confirmed that some associations that make up the Assembly refused to participate in this “act of illegality”, but confirmed that this does not mean that “the coup attempt has been cancelled”, he said that at least it was suspended thanks to the collaboration of these partners and the support of institutions such as the UdeG, UDLAP, among others.

This was later confirmed by the authorities on social networks “In order to guarantee strict adherence to the regulatory provisions related to the notification process. This is because some associates received the session folder minutes after the time required to meet the time requirement. Therefore, the session is adjourned until further notice.

Support and complaints

Under the cry of “Álvarez Buylla, science is not yours”, other institutions such as the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) joined the contingent, to support CIDE and denounce policies that go against university autonomy.

During the walk, a representative of the Union of Academic Workers of the University of Guadalajara stated: “This march is for dignity and respect for higher education in Mexico, if we allow what they intend to do to CIDE to happen to them, they will end up with higher education in Mexico.

He said that autonomy is “cathedra freedom and thought”, and that the government wants a single thought “and that the academics at the University of Guadalajara and in all of Mexico are not going to allow”, he added that the thought must be scientific and verifiable, not dogmatic, “that is why today the academics of Guadalajara are defending CIDE with everything, we are not going to leave them alone because this fight is also up to us. We have suffered attacks by Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez in Jalisco we are the same, suffering an attack against university autonomy, where the governor unilaterally and capriciously reduced 140 million pesos to the budget”.

In addition, through their social networks they manifested “CIDE’s struggle belongs to each and every university student in the country. We will demand unrestricted respect for the autonomy of public education institutions, including that of our UdeG, as well as better conditions for academics and academics.”
