Organized Online Selling Turns Into Gunpoint Robbery In Pickering: Police | The Canadian News

Two people selling game consoles in Pickering were assaulted at gunpoint earlier this week, Durham Regional Police say.

Officers were called to the Pickering Town Center parking lot on Kingston Road around 7:45 p.m. Thursday, in response to reports of an alleged robbery, police said in a news release.

The victims agreed to meet the suspect through a social media app, with the intention of selling him four PlayStation 5 consoles, police said.

When found, the suspect, a passenger in a gray Nissan Altima, brandished a gun and threatened the victims before leaving with the consoles, police allege, adding that the suspect fled the scene to the west.

Officers searched the area but could not find the suspect, whom they describe as 20 to 30 years old, six feet four inches tall and wearing a cloth mask, gray pants and a black bubble jacket.

A description of the driver of the vehicle has not been provided.

“The police remind residents to take precautions when selling items on any online platform,” the statement said.

“It is better to meet during the day, in a public place away from your residence, and bring someone with you.”
