Mighty Heart repeats as Horse of the Year

Mighty Heart, the horse with one working eye, was honored Thursday with the Sovereign Award as Horse of the Year.

It’s the second year in a row that Mighty Heart has received the award, after being saluted in 2020 following a victory in the Queen’s Plate.

Last year, Mighty Heart had three wins, two seconds and two thirds in eight starts, including victories in the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes and Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes.

Mighty Heart was also named champion older main track male.

Mark Casse, whose horses won 27 stakes races in 2021, was named an outstanding trainer.

Sam-Son Farm was named outstanding breeder for the 11th time.

The 47th annual awards were presented by the Jockey Club of Canada.
