The Société de transport de Laval (STL) filed an application with the Quebec labor court on Monday to end pressure tactics by its unionized bus drivers, tactics the traffic authority maintains are illegal.

The STL claims that the tactics led to an abnormally high number of late arrivals on November 18, creating a bias for its passenger numbers. The transit authority says it saw service slowdowns that created 250 delays on various bus routes.

A strike day planned by the drivers union for November 15 was canceled, but another two strike days are planned for November 26 and November 27. There will be peak hours and night service.

Contract talks between the STL and drivers are stalled over salaries, schedules and the future of certain bus routes that are seen as not in sufficient demand to sustain themselves.

The STL says its contract offer to drivers is comparable to what was accepted by other unions within the transit authority.
